Hill Bank Field Station
per person
Hill Bank Field Station is a conservation-focused lodge and research base on the southern edge of the New River Lagoon, managed by Programme for Belize within the Rio Bravo Conservation and Management Area. It sits at a historic site with roots in Mayan settlement and centuries of mahogany logging, now repurposed for forest protection, biodiversity monitoring, and eco-education .
Accommodations include private cabanas with en-suite bathrooms and more communal dorm-style cabins. Everything is kept simple and clean, with ceiling fans rather than air conditioning and screened verandas overlooking the lagoon. Guests often wake to birdsong, explore forest trails by day, and join guided boat trips along lagoon edges to spot wildlife like herons, crocodiles, and parrots.
At Hill Bank, every stay supports real conservation work. Income funds ranger patrols, sustainable logging research, and reforestation projects. Visitors can get involved—learning forestry, monitoring wildlife, or joining ranger teams—all while immersed in one of Belize’s richest natural landscapes
