The Development Finance Corporation (DFC) is Belize’s sole development bank, established in 1963 and headquartered in Belmopan. Its mission is to provide affordable, sustainable financing to support the long-term development of Belize’s economy and people. Over the past decade, DFC has invested nearly BZD $250 million across sectors such as tourism, agriculture, renewable energy, and education.

In the tourism sector, DFC offers tailored financial solutions to help businesses develop, expand, or modernize their operations. These include loans for constructing or renovating hotels, resorts, eco-lodges, and guesthouses, as well as financing for tour operators, restaurants, cultural tourism ventures, and handicraft businesses. DFC also supports investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency within the tourism industry.

In March 2025, DFC and the Belize Tourism Board (BTB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance financial access for tourism businesses. This partnership aims to develop financial instruments that enable tourism enterprises to expand, adopt sustainable practices, and improve competitiveness. It also includes capacity-building initiatives to assist tourism operators in navigating loan application processes.

As a member of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), DFC plays a crucial role in empowering tourism stakeholders through accessible financing, business guidance, and a commitment to sustainable development.
