The Belize Tourism Industry Association holds its 10th Successful Biennial Belize Tourism Expo (BETEX 2014)
The event, held every 2 years, brought together approximately 200 local and international tourism professionals and media representatives. BETEX, an opportunity to showcase Belize’s Tourism, created an environment for trade visitors (travel agents) to connect directly with Belizean Tourism suppliers to find out what Belize has to offer.
The two-day event was launched at a special Opening Night Ceremony, hosted by the Belize Tourism Board at the Princess Hotel’s Club Elite. Herbert Haylock, President of the BTIA, welcomed all the participants, saying, “Our hope ladies and gentlemen, and especially for our guests in the audience tonight, is that you will have a genuine opportunity to meet, discuss business, detail future arrangements, establish solid future sales and ultimately make this destination the number one choice with your clients, whether you’re a small agent or large wholesaler.” He further noted, “As you travel around the country in the next few days, you will undoubtedly discover nature’s awesome features at its best here in Belize! Be warmly embraced in your discovery of genuine Belizean personalities, hospitality and culture. We know that the schedules, given the nature of the business at hand on your site visits and inspections may have you moving at a fast pace, but I invite you, we invite you, Belize invites you to unwind at the end of day while being soothed by authentic Belizean music, culture and our people.”
The keynote address was delivered by the Hon. Manuel Heredia, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Culture. Opening Night also saw the launch of the Harper’s Bazaar Interior Features on Belize; Mary Rhaburn, Event Coordinator, for BETEX 2014, provided the closing remarks.
During the official tradeshow days, May 8th-9th, visitors got the opportunity to meet with exhibitors at their booths showcasing the best in Belize’s tourism opportunities, from travel destinations, hotels, tour operators, and other tourism service providers. Belize was well represented, as suppliers and buyers discussed business in their pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings.
Travel agents were also given the opportunity to sign up for three-day post-tours/familiarization trips to different destinations throughout the country on the Luxury Experience, Reef & Rainforest or Diver’s Delight itineraries. The tours enabled agents to become better acquainted and experience firsthand the prime tourism destinations in Belize and see properties are best suited to their clients’ needs and provided properties the opportunity to secure new contracts.
Attendees to this year’s BETEX are once more saying that it was the best one ever, definitely worth attending and are looking forward to BETEX 2016. BETEX, first organized in 1996, is an initiative of the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA), the nation’s leading Private Sector Tourism Association.
