Belize City, Belize – February 5, 2015- The Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) is proud to announce that it has added its 10th nationwide chapter in Belmopan City. This ground breaking meeting was held at the UB-Environmental Research Institute Building on January 28, 2015.
The formation of a new vibrant Belmopan Chapter was one of the targets listed by our President Mr. Osmany Salas at our Annual General Meeting in December 2014. The main objective of this chapter is to provide members in the area with support to lobby for issues directly affecting them; to facilitate for a stronger voice as a tourism destination; and also enable members to benefit from a more unified marketing approach for Belmopan.
Mr. Salas stressed on the importance of working together to ensure that this new chapter moves forward in conjunction with the needs of the tourism industry. He stated ,“The work ahead will be challenging, but the rewards of a persevering spirit can and will be manifold. As a stronger and more unified Association, we can ensure that we will expand our influence on matters pertaining to tourism policy, legislation and marketing for the sustainable development of the industry and improved quality of the visitor experience.”
At this meeting the elections for the new Belmopan Board was also held. A total of fifteen members were present and participated in this new initiative to support and endorse the city of Belmopan as a growing tourism destination. The new BTIA-Belmopan Board is comprised of four directors; Wilana Oldham- Hot Mamas, Matt Hulse- Buca Services, Mervin Budram- TAS Belize Ltd, and Simone Hunt from Belize Jungle Dome. This new board will work collaboratively with the national board to ensure that a strategic plan is put in place to promote and develop Belmopan and surrounding areas as a tourism destination.
As part of our revitalization process our focus is to build a stronger association and with the addition of this Belmopan Chapter it will certainly propel us to the start of greater things for the Association in 2015.
We thank our Belmopan members, BTIA Gold Sponsor- the Development Finance Corporation, Oceana and the Belmopan City Council for supporting this initiative. We look forward to working closely promoting tourism in Belize which has become one of the most important national industries allowing for improving the economic standards of our people while highlighting our natural resources and the importance of their sustainable use.
