In July, BTIA’s Executive Director, Mrs. Linette Canto participated in a Festivals in Belize webinar for 75 US travel advisors. The session was moderated by Travel Trade Manager, Natia Kvachadze. The Belize Tourism Board and the Belize Hotel Association were represented by Mr. Simon Noralez and Mr. Reynaldo Malik, respectively.

Statistical and anecdotal evidence continues to point to a strong recovery for Belize’s Tourism Industry. While the outlook for the rest of the summer and fall—our traditionally slowest time of the year—is not likely to reach last year’s “revenge travel”-inspired levels the general consensus is that late November and beyond will see both hotel occupancy and overall tourism revenues return to at least 2019 levels.

BTIA recently participated in the World Oceans Day Expo which was held at the Buttonwood Bay Park in Belize City. The association was represented at this event by Renae Martinez and Abdiel Dominguez. The Chocolate Festival of Belize was held in May and featured two main events: the signature Wine and Chocolate Gala and the Taste of Toledo Street fair. The Wine and Chocolate Gala took place on Friday, May 20 at the Punta Gorda Welcome Plaza and provided guests with the opportunity to sample an assortment of Belizean chocolates and enjoy food, drinks and entertainment. The San Pedro Belize Tourism Industry Association Chapter (SPBTIA) inaugurated its Tourism Information Center (TIC) on Friday, April 29th. The office is located adjacent to the San Pedro House of Culture. The information center will provide walk-in visitors with tourism-related information and services offered by SPBTIA members. The center has brochures with information on places of interest on the island and QR Codes with information about SPBTIA stakeholders. Three representative of the Caye Caulker BTIA Chapter (CCBTIA) were in in Puerto Morelos, Mexico from 28 April to 1 May, 2022 for the final class of their 2021 Mesoamerican Reef Leadership Programme.The CCBTIA Team was comprised of Maria Vega, Veronica Young and Buddy Magaña Jr. who were very happy to be meeting their counterparts from Belize, Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras after one year of virtual training due to the pandemic restrictions.
