BTIA Orange Walk Chapter Inaugurates Tourism Information Center
The Belize Tourism Industry Association Orange Walk Chapter held its official inauguration of the Tourism Information Center on June 6th, 2012 at the Queen Elizabeth Park. It was well attended by the different stakeholders – representatives from the Belize Tourism Board, the Belize Tourism Industry Association, and the Orange Walk business community.
The first speaker of the day was Mr.Osmany Salas, Chairperson of the BTIA Orange Walk Chapter. In his welcome address, Mr. Salas emphasized Orange Walk as an emerging tourism destination, with the importance of making Orange Walk a tourism destination not only for international tourists but also for the local Belizean tourists. He also highlighted BTIA Orange Walk Chapter’s close working relationship with the BTB, BTIA National and the Orange Walk business community.
The main address was done by Mr. Ian Lizarraga, Chairperson of the Belize Tourism Board. Mr. Lizarraga commended the BTIA Orange Walk Chapter for its efforts towards highlightingthe responsible tourism development in Orange Walk.
A special presentation was done by the Palmar Mestizo Dancing Group. Dressed in their colourful Mestizo clothing, the group members performed several Mestizo’s traditional dances such as the Nicte Ha, El Pichito Amoroso, El Dogollete and the Zapateado Maya.
Certificates of Appreciation were awarded to the main sponsor, the Belize Tourism Board, as well as to different organizations and individuals who in one way or the other contributed towards the Tourism Information Center.
After the closing remarks, the ribbon cutting was carried out by Mr. Ian Lizarraga, Chairman of the Belize Tourism Board, Mr. James Scott, President of the National Belize Tourism Industry Association, and Mr. Osmany Salas, Chairperson of the Belize Tourism Industry Association Orange Walk Chapter.
The inauguration closed with a BTIA logo-themed, cake auction, to raise funds for the Belize Tourism Industry Association Orange Walk Chapter which was a great end to the event and bright beginning for the chapters’ new Tourism Information Center.
